Any day I get to see Spite Fuxxx tear the stage apart is a damn good day. I was long overdue to see them because I’ve been so busy the last few months so I missed several of their shows. Suffice it to say that I was BEYOND ready for a face ripping from them and they did not disappoint. They came out strong and played a bunch of my favorites and nailed the hits like “Eat The Rich,” and an absolutely stellar cover of the Dolly Parton classic “9 to5.” Much to my delight they also played some brand new material which I was very excited to hear. Word has it that a full length is on the horizon from them and that is the most joyous news I’ve gotten in a while!

 

But the most exciting moment of the night wasn’t even purely the music, but the fact that singer MG Stillwaggon’s little sister was there at her very first punk show ever AND she crowd surfed. (See below because of course I captured all the action.) I’m all about spreading the punk love and life to the younger generation so it was very fun seeing someone experience it for the first time at around the same age I was when I started going to shows in the 90s. 

 

As for the rest of the bill, it was a very mixed bill in terms of style. I unfortunately missed the first performer, Cameron Castan, but made it just in time for Heavy Halo, a heavy industrial electro goth duo (think Pretty Hate Machine meets Depeche Mode) and Jelly Kelly, the first time I’ve seen prog rock melded with jangle pop meets post punk. The drums got a little busy for my taste at times, but I liken that to the proggy overtones and overall this band had a strong showing so I’m looking forward to seeing them again.

 

Punk fucking rock man, love it, can’t live without it.
